Association of Hungarian Folk Artists

Introduction

The Association of Hungarian Folk Artists is a nongovernmental organisation which brings together 64 Folk Associations, Craft Workshops and Art Houses from all over the Carpathian Basin. Currently, it has a membership of more than 5,000 craftsmen. The aim of the Association is to support the values of the Hungarian folk crafts, to unite people interested in the folk arts, and to create new regional associations and organisations. The Association is responsible for the professional membership, liaising with the member associations and the creative houses, coordinating activities, as well as ensuring the mutual exchange of information. The Association is experienced in EU project implementation, they participated in EU funded projects that aimed at strengthening community development and social responsibility, enhancing cultural exchanges, promoting the development of professional knowledge and strengthening local cultural identity, promoting the integration of disadvantaged social groups, the development of volunteering, intergenerational cooperation, and cross-border cooperation.

Thematic relevance

The main strength of the Association is that it represents the interests of artists engaged in heritage crafts. The ASP is also practised and good at strengthening community development and social responsibility, which is a core issue in COMMHERITOUR. The added value is the outreach of the ASP towards smaller and larger entities of Hungarian heritage based arts and crafts as well as toward stakeholders beyond DR (Being a member of the European Craft Organization).
