Thematic relevance

KUK plays an important role in linking cultural heritage, creative industries and tourism in the Upper Palatinate. The region’s strong active-tourism profile—trekking, biking and kayaking—offers opportunities for combining outdoor experiences with cultural and creative activities. KUK supports this intersection by fostering innovative practices among local creatives, whose strengths range from traditional crafts to digital design, architecture and photography. Its initiatives, such as artist residencies and a series of youth workshops in video, design, social media and digital arts, help revitalise cultural life and engage younger generations. The region’s heritage, including folk celebrations like “Kirchweih/Kirwa” and beer-brewing traditions, benefits from KUK’s efforts to promote cultural identity and stimulate new interpretations through creative practices. KUK’s work contributes to making the region more liveable, dynamic and culturally attractive.
